Exceptional Dental Implants and Implant Dentistry – Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and Surrounding Areas
If you are missing one or more of your natural teeth, or if you have a dental bridge, dental crown, or denture that slips and shifts, dental implants may be the ideal solution for you. Implant dentistry can be life-changing for patients who have endured the discomfort and inconvenience of tooth-supported restorations, since implants secure artificial tooth replacements directly to the jawbone. The result is a slip-free tooth restoration that feels indistinguishable from natural teeth. Bluebonnet Dental Care is pleased to provide world-class dental implants and comprehensive implant dentistry to patients from Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Mandeville, and surrounding areas. Our team of experts can use implants to return function and beauty to your smile.

What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are comprised of three parts: a tiny titanium post, a metal ball atop of the post, and a rubber O-ring. The post is surgically placed in the jawbone, where it functions as an artificial tooth root. The ball rests on top of the gums, where it anchors the artificial tooth to the implant in ball-and-socket fashion. The O-ring rests between the ball and the gums, where it serves as a cushion. The entire implant apparatus functions as a natural tooth: it restores complete function to the tooth without relying on support from surrounding teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants
The benefits of dental implants are numerous. Since implant-supported restorations do not slip or shift, they allow patients to eat, speak, and chew with confidence and prevent excessive wear and tear to the tooth restoration. Implants also help promote gum tissue health. Because implant-supported restorations do not rely on support from the surrounding teeth, they do not cause misalignment and other problems often associated with tooth-supported restorations. With proper maintenance, dental implants can last for many years.
Our Implant Dentistry Services
Bluebonnet Dental Care provides complete implant dentistry services at our Baton Rouge office. Our services include the surgical placement of the implant posts and the crafting and placement of the replacement teeth to the posts.
Dental Implants Placement and Restoration
The placement process for dental implants is relatively straightforward. It requires approximately two visits to our office – one to surgically place the implant(s) in the jawbone and a second to place the artificial tooth (the restoration). The doctor performs the implant placement surgery while the patient is under local anesthesia (sedation dentistry may be an option for patients who suffer from dental anxiety). The dentist allows the implant site to heal before placing the restoration (the healing process usually takes between one and six months). Once the restoration is in place and the patient adapts to the implant apparatus, he or she can enjoy a fully restored smile.
Mini Dental Implants
Bluebonnet Dental Care also provides Mini Dental Implants (MDIs), which differ from traditional implants in several ways. They are smaller, anchored in the gum tissue rather than the jawbone, and do not require any healing period. Dental bridges and dentures, the most common restorations used with MDIs, can be placed immediately.
